25 Years of Excellence: Top Ranked, Industry Connected, Future Focused

By Jasmine Liu

Following 25 years of UC Berkeley Haas' Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) program, we're excited to announce our newest update. In the past, each MFE cohort began their journey at Berkeley in March. Moving forward, our MFE cohorts from 2027 onwards will start in January. In addition to the new start date, students can now choose between a summer or fall internship. We're excited for the changes ahead as we continue to build on the program's dedication to academic excellence.

The Program's Next Chapter

For the past year, we've introduced several changes into the program. The MFE is lead by a new career services team including Director Vash Doshi and Associate Directors Ian Kaufman and Chris Polhalski. The Berkeley MFE program is climbing to historic highs, including:

  • matching 96% of the cohort with an internship over the fall and winter of 2025
  • a full-time offer within 6 months of degree conferral
  • similarly high achieving rates for the current MFE 2027 cohort

The change was designed with career outcomes in mind. By allowing students to begin the program in January 2027, we expect the students to be able to be competitive for summer 2027 internships in summer 2026 itself. We have also made the Berkeley MFE program one of the most flexible MFE programs in the country by allowing for either a summer or a fall internship within the one-year program, effectively widening the landscape of opportunities the students can pursue.

In short: Berkeley MFE shifts from a March 2027 start to January 2027. The incoming MFE27 cohort will be eligible for summer 2027 internships, with career preparation starting July through August 2026 after enrollment to the program.
