Before attending the Berkeley MFE, Shihong Wen majored in Economics and Finance at Tsinghua University and gained quantitative hedge fund experience at KGO Information and Technology.
“The Berkeley MFE program has the best career service available, a well-tailored curriculum, and a diversified student body. Here we have access to a wide range of opportunities from top notch hedge funds, big investment banks, sovereign wealth funds, technology startup, and Internet Giants,” said Shihong.
From the MFE Risk Management Course, Shihong learned that when you earn return too good to be true, it is very possible you are taking some tail risks. He learned from the Asset Backed Security course by Christopher Palmer and Nancy Wallace to price structure products using data analytic skills, and how these innovative products may benefit or endanger the society. “The courses are very fast paced and full of engaging content. Students are forced to leave their comfort zone and face challenges.”
Shihong is interested in investment and financial innovation because he is always curious about the unknown. He found that the Berkeley MFE has the spirit and resources necessary to adapt to the rapidly evolving field of finance.
Shihong is currently interning as a quantitative researcher at Nipun Capital, a boutique asset management firm focused on Asian equities.
“The MFE office brings in many insightful speakers and market practitioners from across the spectrum of finance. The combination of data analytical skills, domain knowledge and market intuition offered by industry practitioners are essential to a successful career in finance.” -- Shihong Wen, MFE 2017
